Emotional intelligence and employee’s self-esteem

Before reading the book (1), I thought the emotional intelligence is nothing more than fake emotions of some gifted people who could win even the Oscar award for their acting skills. Moreover, what has job to do with emotions? The sphere of emotions is private life, after all. From work experience, each of us knows how bosses can humiliate and offend workers in many ways. It ruins motivation and self-esteem of employees and it leads to many harmful consequences.

How to motivate employees

Employee motivation is such a wonderful phrase. Every manager dreams that one day employees would gladly do a boring and dull job smiling and asking for more. Sounds great, but it has nothing to do with real life. People are not robots with on/off functions. Only the person who is willing to do the job but for some reason cannot do it (properly) can be motivated. In that case, some decisions and actions of the management could be of some help and assistance.

Aggression is inevitable

The man is regarded as the masterpiece of evolution, the most intelligent being on Earth, as well as the greatest mistake made by nature. We have read and heard much about evolution, anthropology and Darwin’s theory. Thousands of movies have been made and even more books have been written about people, their deeds, thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Maybe for this reason, our assumption of what the man is rather is based on romantic stories and heroic movie sacrifices or cruel betrayals, than on scientific facts of researches.

Let’s try to figure out who the modern man is, and how different he is from his ancient ancestors Cro-Magnons. Is he really that intelligent? And what does it mean to him to be a part of labor market in the 21st century?

Human is an irrational being controlled by ancient instincts when making decisions or taking actions.

Homo non sapiens

Our genetic program and behavioral patterns have not been changing for the last 100 thousand years (!). Humans share 98.5% of the genetic material with chimpanzees; although evolutionary we are 7 million years apart. Only 1.5% is our own genetic material. Thus, one can say that our behavioral patterns are inheritance from the prehistoric times. The assumption that the human is a rational being that perceives the world with his mind and makes reasonable decisions, could make us proud of ourselves. But it is false.
